Description
The Art of Healing is a one-day conference where participants draw on their creativity and explore the healing that can happen through artistic expression. All are invited to discover the many ways art fosters healing for body and soul. Workshops will include drumming, creative writing, and poetry. Each participant will select one morning session and one afternoon session, as described below, during the registration process. Each session has limited seating, available on a first come basis. The Power of the Drum, Room Goldsmith Moadon
Fre Atlast
Explore the transformative qualities of drumming, singing, music and movement as a tool to enhance the healing process.
Fre Atlast is a Multi-instrumental Performer, Producer, Resident Teaching Artist, Composer, Foley Artist, Community Activist, and one of the charter members of the Rosendale Theatre Collective.
A Journey Through the Body to Find Wisdom for Healing, Room K-306
Tara Sherman, MD
Participants will experience the power of the body and its movement as a vehicle for deep exploration of various themes that are encountered in the caregiving relationship.
Tara Sherman is an artist and a scientist. Tara was a former dancer with the School of American Ballet and performed with the NY City Ballet Company. She became a psychiatrist working as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and in private practice in Manhattan.
The Magic of Gardens and Nature, Room U-406
Aresh Javadi
This workshop will explore listening and sharing through the gardens we make and the gardens we visit.
Aresh Javadi's roots as an artist, educator, and community activist, grew from the fertile soil of Shiraz, Iran, a city of enchanted gardens, where Hafiz’ mystic love poems are recited by heart around the table.
A Workshop in Sound, Music, and Meditation, Room K-506
Katie Down, MA, MT-BC, LCAT
In this workshop, we will discuss how to incorporate sound to help recalibrate the central nervous system, bring a sense of calm and relaxation to our patients and ourselves, and to help those transitioning.
Katie Down, MT-BC, LCAT, is a licensed creative arts therapist, sound therapist, certified Reiki practitioner and professional composer/performer.
Contemplative Practices with the Ill and Dying, Room K-406
Dr. Jeannie Blaustein
In this workshop, we will focus on multiple ways to help individuals and their families connect more deeply to their inner feelings, wishes, and fears, and to the larger world from which they might draw strength and comfort.
Dr. Jeannie Blaustein, a licensed clinical psychologist and holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in pastoral care and counseling from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

Ellen de Jonge-Ozeri
In this workshop Ellen will share her journal process and the impact her writing had on her understanding of life, sickness, family, and love.
Ellen de Jonge-Ozeri came to blogging as a world wide traveler with her husband, photojournalist, Zion Ozeri. Ellen has found humor and emotion in the mundane, discovering stories in the communities they have visited.
Tuning in to Our Baby, Room U-406
Vered Benhorin
Participants will be led in experientials such as drumming, soothing, and songwriting and will learn practical tools that can be easily implemented with caregivers and their babies.
Vered is a music therapist, psychotherapist, musician and mom of three. She is the creator of Baby in Tune, which holds classes throughout NYC for 500 parents a year.

A Movement Workshop, Tanenbaum 10th Floor
Judy Stern
This workshop is based on the principles of The Alexander Technique and Chi Quong. It will emphasize the idea that Health and Movement are essential to maintaining a sense of wellbeing.
Judy Stern is a physical therapist and a teacher of the Alexander Technique with 50 years of experience working with people in pain and in need of rehabilitation.
Healing Through the Writing of Poetry, Room K-406
Rev. Paul Steinke
Paul’s belief and the workshop’s motto is "Poetry gives life as nothing else can." This workshop will explore the ways poetry gives life to the reader and to the writer.
Paul, a Lutheran, was a parish pastor for ten years and has been a CPE Supervisor since 1977.
